Foreign Language Training
Foreign language training at Doris Tenedi School follows the European tradition of mastering several foreign languages until graduating from high school and was enshrined in our concept in 1994.
Along with the development of personal qualities and the expansion of the general culture of students, foreign language teaching at Doris Tenedi has the following strategic goals:
- Early and systematic foreign language training in both educational levels,
- Building a solid base of language knowledge and skills for full communication in an authentic language environment, exchange of information, free movement and international cooperation,
- Preparation for study in elite universities with an entrance exam in a foreign language,
- Professional realisation and mobility of the graduates as specialists with a high level of proficiency in a foreign language.
The school offers three options for language learning:
Ранно чуждоезиково обучение и езикова гимназия със смяна на първия чужд език в VІІІ клас
Early foreign language training and language high school with a change of the first foreign language in VIII grade. In this option, students complete the full course of study (twelfth grade) with three languages. By 7th grade, they acquire competence in the first foreign language B2, equal to the graduates of the preparatory class of English language high school. After 7th grade, students enter a preparatory class at a German-language high school and complete the full course of a German high school.
As a second foreign language, the study of English continues, and in the 12th grade, the language competence of the graduates of the English language high school is reached (level C1).
The study of a third foreign language takes place from V to VII grade, and upon completion, language competence is achieved (A2 - B1).
This option is for students who enter a preparatory class at the English or German language high school "Doris Tenedi" and upon completion of the full high school course reach language competence in the first foreign language C1. From IX to XII grade students learn a second foreign language, and upon graduation, they reach language competence B1-B1 +.
Early foreign language training and language high school with preservation of the first foreign language
In this option, students complete the full course of study (grade 12) with 2 or 3 languages. This option applies to students enrolled in the school at a later stage (after III-IV grade), who by the end of VII grade have not managed to reach level B2. The study of the first foreign language continues until the 12th grade, and the students acquire a level of knowledge equal to the graduates of a language high school (level C1 in the European language framework). The study of a second foreign language begins in the 5th grade, and upon completion of the 7th grade, language competence is reached - level A2-B1. From the ninth grade, students have the opportunity to choose a third foreign language. Upon graduation, they reach language competence A2 / B1, or they can prefer to continue studying the second foreign language selected in the 5th grade.
Assessment of language skills
The school has developed an intricate system for current and periodic assessment of students' language training.
Within the normal learning process, specialised training is conducted to obtain international certificates for language proficiency, which give the right to study, specialise and work abroad.
